12 things - create a vision board for 2014

Here it is the middle of April and I'm just now completing/working on my vision board for this year. Procrastinator much? The truth is I'd started it on the metal boards I have above my desk, but it was difficult to complete because I don't buy magazines and printing out pictures on a black and white printer just wasn't going to cut it. I needed another way to get my vision board started.

I ended up turning to Pinterest. I mean, it's basically one big vision board already isn't it? When I come along something that fits with the things I want this year I pin it to my Vision Board 2014. Little or small I pin it. It could be something small I want like a new pair of shoes or an inspirational quote that I want to strive for. It's my conversation with the Universe for my plans this year.
  • read 75 books - 20 down 55 to go, more if you count short stories
  • make at least 20 quilts - I've completed 8 quilt TOPS, but no completed quilts yet
  • simplify my apartment (purge, sell trash) - I've gotten a lot of stuff thrown away, now I need to work on selling some stuff. I've also simplified my bedroom by taking about everything but the bed and end table. it's getting there
There's still a lot of work to be done. Less than 7 months to go. The reading should come along nicely, it's some of the other goals I need to put some more work into. The vision board while marked off as complete really is a work in progress and always will be, but I'm still calling it a win as complete. Ha!
  1. create a vision board for 2014
  2. read 75 books
  3. make at least 20 quilts
  4. have my business prepared for the holidays
  5. friend friday
  6. stock my online shops and promote my business more
  7. sew a dress from the staple dress pattern
  8. travel to somewhere I haven't traveled before
  9. get back under 200 lbs
  10. simplify my apartment (purge, sell, trash)
  11. apply to Yelp! Bazaar and the Indieana Handicraft Exchange (holiday edition)
  12. make at least 3 deposits into my Roth IRA
  13. complete my capsule wardrobe

12 things - 2014

Last year Rima from Bolu by Rima started 12 things, goals she wanted to accomplish for the year. I joined in the fun, but well...I didn't accomplish very many of those goals. I completed 4 (I edited one goal) out of my 12 goals. I don't know if she planned on doing it again this year, but I thought I'd give it another shot. I've got some new goals and a couple of oldies made it back this year. Here they are:

create a vision board for 2014
read 50 books (I'm thinking about changing this to 75)
make at least 20 quilts
have my business prepared for the holidays
friend friday
stock my online shops and promote my business more
sew a dress from the staple dress pattern
travel to somewhere I haven't traveled before
get back under 200 lbs
simplify my apartment (purge, sell, trash)
apply to Yelp! Bazaar and the Indieana Handicraft Exchange (holiday edition)
make at least 3 deposits into my Roth IRA
complete my capsule wardrobe (a 13th goal just for fun)

friend friday is my goal to spend time with a friend once a week, it might not always be on Friday. Just some time during the week. That way I don't go long periods without seeing people that I care about and I get the chance to grow my friendships. I'm guessing most of these "dates" will revolve around food. I mean heck...what's better than friends and food?

Instead of updating my goals monthly I thought I'd post when I completed a goal and then randomly when I was making progress on other goals. We'll see how that goes.

What are your goals for 2014?

november december goals and an october update

Holidays are coming. This is the time of year where I'd prefer to hid out in my house away from all the crazies, but the bills have to get paid and in order to do that it requires me going to work. Bummer. I don't understand the holiday craziness. I'm gonna leave it at that before I get all ranty. Oy!

  • enjoy my birthday - The birthday was okay. I enjoyed dinner with a few friends, ran some errands and got the chair I wanted from Target. It wasn't on sale like it was at another Target, but I had enough in gift cards that I didn't pay that much for it. I was a little disappointed more people didn't come to have dinner with me and that I didn't get any cards in the mail this year or any phone calls. I did get plenty of facebook messages, tweets and what not though. Sometimes I like the more thoughtful things though. Too much technology. - 1
  • get caught up on mail - I only sent out a couple of the packages that I needed to send out. I still have thank you cards to send as well as a couple more packages. It's on my list for this month. - 1/2
  • create stock for the holiday season - I didn't get as much done as I wanted because I was a big procrastinator. The computer is such a huge distraction. The other day I told myself I could only check my email at certain times and I could only spend 15 on the computer after I accomplished other tasks. All of the internet is such a time suck. I have to manage my time better. -1/2
Slacker month. I totally could've had 100% this month had I been on it. I'd like to blame if on the cold weather, but that's a lame excuse. It's just me.

Still so much work to do this month and it only gets more and more busy as the holidays approach. My focus right now is to create stock for several shops and pop up shops. All the work will pay off come January when the money is flowing into my account. Woo! I've been working on pushing my etsy shop more, but with the recent changes to what they consider handmade (factory made is not handmade), I may start pushing my storenvy more.

I've collected quite a bit of fabric for my 100 Quilts project. I can't wait for January to come around so that I can get to work on quilts. I've got my eye on a huge bolt of batting so I can save some more money on this project and I'm also thinking about contacting a sewing machine company to see if they'll donate a sewing machine. I mean...it's worth a shot right?

I won't be posting in December since the goal will pretty much be the same. You'll have to come back in January to see how the season went.

october goals and a september recap

It's my BIRTHDAY...month. I'm not really one of those people that counts down to my birthday. Not anymore at least. I think I used to do it. I've blocked all those memories out though. It's the last quarter of the year. Holidays are coming and then it'll be a new year and we'll start all over again and the months will fly by again and then it'll be my birthday again. OMG! Okay I'll stop. Ha!

1/2 price sushi...the little things

  • focus on weightlifting - Even though I haven't made it to the gym as often as I would have liked I have been working with weights more. I've even added a few extra machines/weights. I surprised myself the other day when I was using the leg press. I had more weight on it than I thought I did and did fine. I'm making progress. I usually feel rushed on days I go to the gym. I'm working on not feeling so rushed so I can spend more time working out and getting done what I'd like to get done. - 1
  • make lavender vanilla extract - I made lavender extract, hibiscus extract and the vanilla extract is still in the works. I didn't realize that vanilla extract took 2 months to make. Oops. I made some cupcakes using the lavender extract. The flavor wasn't that powerful, so I'll try again and use more extract. I might even add more buds to the jar to see if I can make it a more powerful extract. Now all I need to do is find a bottle to store them in. The jars don't really work well with the wide mouths. Every time I go to open them I think it's all going to spill out on me. That'd be no bueno. - 1
  • track spending on the little things - at the end of the month all those little things I've spent money on sure have added up. I could've bought myself a new phone, paid off my credit card bill, bought a new sewing machine or just saved a nice chunk of money with what I spent on what I think was mostly eating out. time to make some budgetary changes and start cutting out spending on these little things. -1
It feels good to be at 100% this month with 3/3 goals completed. I feel like it's been a long time since I've gotten all my goals accomplished. It feels good to know I'm accomplished something. I actually got my goals ready before the 1st of the month this month. How did that happen? Look at me, I'm on the ball. Let's have a look...

Since my birthday is on a Saturday this year I feel obligated to celebrate by actually doing something like going out with friends. I normally just head up to Chicago for the day and spend my birthday this year, but I don't like going up there on the weekends...too many people. I'll have to go to Chicago another time. Might not be until next year unless I can find time off before black Friday...or find a new job that's NOT in the retail sector.

With the holidays upon us I'm busy getting my consignment shops restocked and enough stuff ready for the holiday pop up shop. I shop to sell out everywhere this year. That's the dream. I think it's possible. I'll be using the proceeds to buy more fabric for the 100 Quilts project.

12 Things - August update

I skipped over last month's update. I don't know why I didn't update. Oops!. Linking up with Rima from Bolu by Rima for 12 things. You can go back to this post here to see my 12 things list. Or you can just read down below.
  1. take a vacation to California
  2. read 50 books
  3. create a vision board
  4. buy a bicycle
  5. run a 5k and 10k
  6. lose at least 34 lbs
  7. get a check up
  8. eat vegetarian for a month
  9. register issa.ino as a business
  10. make issa.ino my ONLY job  start a large quilting project
  11. get issa.ino organized for the holidays
  12. apply to a large craft show
Here's my progress:
  • I changed 10 to suit my current 100 Quilts, 100 Kids project. At this point in the game issa.ino won't be my only job unless I end up with a huge contract to work on my own from home or win the lottery or something.
  • 37 books down and 13 to go. According to good reads I'm ahead of my goal by a couple of books. I've started reading a couple of books that are slow going. I decided to start a sub goal of reading at least 5 hours a week.
  • I've been adding notes to my vision board. Most recently I've added the qualities I'd like to possess. My dream self. I want to be kind and driven and inspiring and strong (physically & mentally). I know that I am already a lot of these things, but I want to work on them and be the best me I can be.
  • Still working out. I think I might be down a total of 3 lbs. 31 more to go. I don't know if it's it's possible to do that in 4 months, but I can try.
  • I thought about hopping on Craigslist to look for a bicycle even though I'd only have a couple of months left to ride this year. But that's better than nothing right?
  • I've started making hats for consignment and hope to get a box sent out by the end of the week. Then I'll start hoarding yarn to make more hats and cowls. I'm going to apply for the Handmade Promenade Holiday Pop Up Shop again this year.
My vision board will never be complete. I will always be adding to it and changing things around. I feel like I can really just cross that item off my list. Maybe at the end of the year I will.

september goals and an august recap

School has started or is starting and we're not to far from the end of the year. Can you believe it? My trip to California was months ago already, but it feels like it was yesterday. I kinda wish I was back in school. I just don't want to do homework or papers. I just want to learn some stuff.

  • purge, clean, organize - I cleaned out my closet of clothing and shoes and listed those things on free cycle. it was like a weight lifted off my back. funny thing is I feel like I could get rid of more clothing and will probably get rid of more clothing. I also got rid of a few blankets by donating them to Rima from Bolu by Rima. She will be taking them to a animal shelter in Bali. I'm still working on the craft area and living room. My dad has been sending me some of my things from Germany so I get rid of stuff and then add back to it. One day all the stuff I don't use/need will be gone. There's still more work to do. - 0.25
  • get 100 quilts, 100 kids funded - funding is going slow. at this point we're at $300 of $5500 with only a week or so more to go. I'm not sure what else I could've been doing to help get this project funded. I also hate to say that I thought I would've gotten more support, even if it was simply sharing or RTing my tweets and facebook updates. - 0.5
  • take more walks - I haven't gotten to go on as many walks as I would like, but I've been on a few. I've enjoyed walking the Monon with friends. It's nice scenery and good exercise. Hopefully I can get more walks in as the weather cools down. it's no fun walking when it's so hot out. Is it fall yet?. -1
I thought with less goals, I'd get more done. Not so much with 1.75/3. I'll live. I blame the hot weather. It's too hot inside my apartment to even want to do anything but sit in front of the fan and play Candy Crush. Ha! Fall is on it's way and I'm super ready...so let's talk about September.

My 100 Quilts, 100 Kids campaign ends this month, hopefully there will be a short burst of donations. If you know anyone willing to support a good cause, please send them my way.

Back to the task at hand, I heard that in order to burn more calories you have to build the bigger muscles in your body. I've been slacking on my muscle training. Not anymore. Maybe I'll even step out of my comfort zone and do some bar work by myself.

I also want to save up for trips next year and hopefully move into a new apartment by the time my new lease is up. I know I spend a lot of money on little things I don't need. It's time to find out how much of my money is being "wasted". I'm not sure I want to know how much it is, this could be scary and hopefully eye-opening.

august goals and a july recap

Oh...hai! Um yeah, so this post is a day late. Oops! I've been pretty wrapped up with my Indie Go Go campaign for 100 Quilts, 100 Kids (click the link and check it out). Sometimes you get an idea and you try to ignore it, but it just won't go away.

  • make chocolate almond butter - so one afternoon I wanted a chocolate banana smoothie and I was out of Nutella so I threw some almonds in my new little food processor with some chocolate chips and got a chunky chocolatey almond butter. it wasn't bad for my first try. the almonds were raw instead of roasted, next time I will make it with roasted. - 1
  • experiment with cheesecake - for most of the month it was just too hot to have the oven going. the last few days have been nice and cool, but I didn't take advantage of that like I should have. I think it was the too many cupcakes and other sweets I had while I was in Chicago. I'm kind of sugared out. - 0
  • put $50 into savings - I actually ended up taking money OUT of my savings account this month when I went to Chicago. Eek! That wasn't supposed to happen. I got a little carried away with mystery shopping the week before I went out of town and I won't be reimbursed for at least a month. lesson learned, do mystery shops that don't require I have to buy anything. - 0
  • eat out only ONCE a week - totally forgot I was having lunch with a friend and brunch with another the same week. this was a fail right when the month started. I will make a better effort this month, but um...the state fair starts today so yeah. - 0
  • enjoy Chicago - it was good to get out of Indianapolis for a day and a half. I ate a lot of good food and stayed in a nice comfy hotel bed that had air conditioning. it could've been a better time, but it was still a good time. plus I had lots of cupcakes, even if some of them did suck. - 1
Summer is for breaks, not thinking about goals. My score of 2/5 shows that clearly. Excuses, excuses. I am the master of excuses...or I used to be. I try not to make them so much these days. It's that thing...personal responsibility. I try to have that, since it bugs the shit out of me sometimes that other people don't have it. Anywho...let's see what's in store for August.

Since my 100 Quilts, 100 Kids campaign ends in September I want to have it mostly/fully funded by the end of August so I can spend September ordering fabric and getting things situated to start sewing. And in order to get my place ready for this undertaking well...my apartment REALLY needs to be purged, cleaned and organized. The two go hand in hand. Wish me luck, share my campaign, send me some fabric or donate. I would really appreciate any help I can get.

12 Things - june update

The year is half over and well, I've not gotten much done. Linking up with Rima from Bolu by Rima for 12 things. You can go back to this post here to see my 12 things list. Or you can just read down below.
  1. take a vacation to California
  2. read 50 books
  3. create a vision board
  4. buy a bicycle
  5. run a 5k and 10k
  6. lose at least 34 lbs
  7. get a check up
  8. eat vegetarian for a month
  9. register issa.ino as a business
  10. make issa.ino my ONLY job
  11. get issa.ino organized for the holidays
  12. apply to a large craft show
Here's my progress:
  • Nothing new to cross off the list. (didn't even change this from last month)
  • 25 books down and 25 to go. I've started reading more again. I'm back on reading teen fiction. I don't know why I like teen fiction so much.
  • I've been enjoying the gym and have lost about 2 lbs so far. Not bad, though I wish it were a lot more than that.
  • This past Saturday I ran an urban obstacle course. It wasn't quite a 5K. I want to do another color run. I need to find someone who wants to run with me. It's much more fun when you have someone to run with you.
  • Still not sure how I want to change the last few items I should probably figure that out.
Slowing going progress. Maybe I'll finish my vision board this month.*shrugs*

In other news: I'm tired of my neighbors setting on fireworks. I'm sure this will continue for another month. I want to punch them all in the throat.

july goals and a june recap

Happy Half Year! Is that a thing? If not it should be. We've got a whole six months left before a new year. If your year isn't going great you still have plenty of time to make it great. Set some goals and conquer them. You can do it!

  • donate, sell, trash apartment stuff - This is going super slow. I keep telling myself I'm going to get to it and then I get caught up doing something else instead. I really need to make a better effort. If I put as much effort into it as I do working out I'd be golden. - 0
  • work out AT LEAST 3 times a week - Oh yeah! I ran an obstacle course this weekend. I'll post about it later this week. I'm really enjoying working out. I got AT LEAST 3 times a week. More if my work schedule permits. Having gympact on my phone really helps. AND I've finally started to lose a few lbs. I'm super excited. - 1
  • send out extra stuff to consignment shops - I haven't even touched the stuff I have except to move it into a new pile maybe. I had some good intentions a few nights ago and then I got distracted by the internet. One of the consignment shops I sell at is hiring and I'm thinking I will apply for the position and drop off some stuff at the same time. Wish me luck. - 0
  • enjoy the outside - I haven't spent as much time outside as I would have like to, but I've probably spent more time outside than I have been. That's good enough. Still needs some work though. It's nice outside and who wants to be stuck inside all the time.  - 1
  • organize LEGO bricks - Mostly finished. I sent out two nice size boxes of bricks to a couple of friends. I have one set that I need to take a part and store. I wish I could buy more sets to build. - 1
I did better than I thought this month with 3/5. I plan to work on the two I missed this month to get them completed since they are things I really need to accomplish. I think I really need to get back to making to do lists. Now let's move on to what I plan to do in July.

I want to take it kinda of easy this month. It's summer time and I want to have fun. I also want to be able to have fun in the future so it's time to start saving up some money. I've got a bit in savings now and I keep forgetting that it's there. That's how I like it. I've also gotten into a bad habit of eating out more than once a week. A slice of pizza from Whole Foods, a burrito from Qdoba, Popeye's. It's no conducive to my goal of losing the poundage so I need to cut back. Of course when I go to Chicago that'll be on hold since I won't be able to eat at home.

june goals and a may recap

The first day of summer is this month...I love summer, but I don't like it sometimes too. In the winter you can put on layers and layers of clothing to get warm. In the summer after you're nekkid, that's it. And you can't get nekkid in public...well you can, but it's not a good idea.

  • learn to make butter - it was fun to watch this happen in my blender. I wasn't sure if my blender could handle it at first, but then bam...there's the butter in my blender looking all creamy. I didn't know where buttermilk came from. It should've been obvious, but it wasn't. Ha! - 1
  • read 5 books - I am currently in the middle of a fourth book Not as much reading going on this month. I guess I went overboard with the reading last week. I'm still on point to finish reading 50 books by the end of the year. I just recently picked up some interesting reads at the library too. - 3/5
  • go outside & play - I still tend to spend more time inside than out, but I did take a nice walk down Mass Ave with a a friend and I even started running on the Monon. I know running isn't really playing, but I was outside and enjoying the weather -1
  • put money in savings - I took most of the cash I made from Mother's Day cards sales and stuck into my savings account since I didn't need the cash to pay rent. Woo!  -1
  • treat yoself! - Nothing big, but I got myself a few new basic v-necks. A lot of my shirts seem to have holes in them and I don't particularly like buying new clothes. Especially right now. I also enjoyed some take out food a few times. Gotta start saving up again though. -1
Woo! I actually did a lot better than I thought I did this month. I was thinking I'd only end up with a 2 of 5, but here I am with a 4.6 of 5. Works for me. I love a good successful month even when it doesn't feel that successful. I can't believe it's already June. Where did the year go? Let's talk about what's next.

I wasn't really sure what I wanted to make my goals this month. Getting my apartment cleared out has been a slow going process. There really is a lot of stuff. I hope to make a dent in it this month. I also have a lot of product left over from the WINTER holidays that I keep meaning to get sent out to the consignment shops, but it's just sitting here. I really need to just send it out. I think it'd help make my apartment look less cluttered. I also told a friend I'd send him some of the extra LEGO bricks I got from work to him so those need to go too. A lot of clearing out this month.
